So, until just a few moments ago, I've been very impressed with Sarah Palin's character and personality. Not that I agree with many of her political stances, or would consider voting for her--she and I differ on practically every issue on which I've heard her take a stance. But her history in fighting big business (oil company) interests for the benefit of Alaskans, her high (80%) approval rating in Alaska (which, to be fair, votes strongly Republican), the importance she assigns to family, and her decision to have and raise a child she knew would have Downs Syndrome endear her to me. I just, however, had a thought?
Since the chance of having a baby with birth defects increases exponentially for someone of her age, what the hell was she thinking in having a child at age 44? Especially when she had four others? Is it some personal reluctance to use birth control? She does support abstinence-only education (funny, considering). Did she have some strange drive or motivation to have more children? Or is she just thoughtless and/or careless?
The weight I'm putting to this topic may seem large, but the quality of your child's life is no light matter.
